Ana Barros - Multidisciplinary Artist

Ana Barros is a transdisciplinary Chilean artist based in Berlin. She was born and raised in Santiago de Chile. Her artistic practice includes performance, installation, photography, collage painting, dance and choreography. 

Her artistic work is situated in the body as a discursive support, exploring the limits of resistance, transfiguration from the artistic discipline as well as from a perspective that questions biopolitics and official discourses at the heart of the creation of language and meaning. Through the act of concealing in order to make something else appear, she proposes possibilities for meaningful encounters with others, from the intimate to the collective, which can open up possibilities for escape in an environment that seems to be emptying itself of meaning.

Ana Barros' art always contains a question, a mystery, in an intriguing mix of performance art, visual art and surrealist elements. The artist explores themes such as the body, identity and transformation, placing the human body in unusual, sometimes bizarre forms and contexts, giving the viewer a sense of unreality and alienation.

The use of black and white photography and painted collage in his work reinforces the surreal nature of his art. The images have a dark, almost mysterious atmosphere, enhanced by the distortion of body shapes and the use of shadows. At the same time, subtle elements of colour create contrasts that enrich the composition. Ana Barros, explores the boundaries between body and space, reality and the dream world, developing a dense, atmospheric and suggestive visual language through the use of different media. Her works seem to raise questions about human existence, identity and transformation, inviting the viewer to explore these themes on a deep emotional level.
